BRUXISM
What is Bruxism
Bruxism is a condition where you gnash, clench, or grind your teeth either unconsciously while you are awake (known as awake bruxism) or while you sleep (known as sleep bruxism). It is technically classified as a sleep-related movement disorder, and if not treated properly, it can lead to bad snoring and, even worse yet, pauses in your breathing, known as sleep apnea.
Mild bruxism may not require treatment, but more severe cases usually do. Untreated bruxism can cause bad headaches, damaged teeth, and jaw disorders. At Executive Dental Studio we're here to help. Come see us if you have the following symptoms:
-
Teeth grinding that is so loud that it wakes up your partner
-
Tooth sensitivity or tooth pain
-
A locked jaw that won't open and close properly or just a very sore jaw in general
-
Trouble Sleeping
-
Worn tooth enamel which exposes more deep parts of the teeth
-
Chipped or flattened teeth
-
Damage to the inside of your cheek as a result of chewing
-
Neck, jaw, or cheek pain
If you have any of these symptoms, come see us. Also, if your child is complaining of these symptoms or notices that your child is grinding or aggressively clenching their teeth, come see us. Bruxism tends to occur in families, so if you, your child, or your partner has bruxism, you'd be wise to check in with the entire family to see who else may be experiencing symptoms. Bruxism can be a result of too much stress and is a rare side effect of some psychiatric medications.
